Carter Center confirms former president to lie in state in Capitol Rotunda, dates still unannounced

Carter died Sunday. He was 100 years old.

Former President Jimmy Carter will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol's Rotunda, the Carter Center announced Monday.

The center said in a post on the social media platform the 39th president will lie in state on Capitol Hill, in Washington, D.C., "at the invitation of congressional leaders." 

The memorial services and other honors for the former president are expected to span several days and include public events in Atlanta and Washington, followed by a private burial ceremony in Carter's hometown of Plains, Georgia, according to Politico

Carter died Sunday. He was 100 years old.
